The CAPTRUST Community Foundation Announces 2025 Charity of Choice

The CAPTRUST Community Foundation (CCF) today announced Roc Solid Foundation as its 2025 Charity of Choice and recipient of a $100,000 grant.

Raleigh, N.C. – June 17, 2025 – The CAPTRUST Community Foundation (CCF), an employee-run 501(c)(3), today announced Roc Solid Foundation as its 2025 Charity of Choice and recipient of a $100,000 grant. Additionally, five nonprofits were selected to receive CCF National Partnership Grants of $25,000 each.

Founded in 2009, Roc Solid Foundation supports families fighting pediatric cancer by providing Ready Bags for unexpected hospital stays, as well as building backyard play structures during treatment to provide joy for both the child fighting cancer and the entire family. Based in Chesapeake, Virginia, Roc Solid Foundation will use the grant to expand its Ready Bag program, giving children and families access to items like toiletries, blankets, and entertainment, reminding them they have a community throughout their journey.

“The support from the CAPTRUST Community Foundation will get us closer to reaching every child and family impacted by pediatric cancer,” said Eric Newman, Roc Solid’s founder and a childhood cancer survivor. “These Ready Bags provide more than comfort items; they stay with families throughout their journeys, and CAPTRUST is allowing us to provide that hope to more families through this partnership.”

“Roc Solid Foundation gives hope to families and children across the country when they need it the most,” said Heather Shanahan, CCF president and senior director of endowments and foundations at CAPTRUST. “Roc Solid Foundation shares CAPTRUST’s dedication to enriching the lives of children, and we are thrilled to recognize them as our Charity of Choice.”

Five nonprofits received National Partnership grants of $25,000:

  • The BASE leverages the power of sports to provide a range of engaging educational opportunities in an environment that cultivates talent and fosters love, hope, and belief.
  • Frankie Lemmon Foundation provides life-changing therapies and educational experiences for children with special needs at no cost to their families.
  • Pinky Swear Foundation offers financial support for housing, food, and transportation so families facing childhood cancer can focus on their child.
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace supplies beds for children in need and extends to building communities, transforming lives, and creating opportunities for personal growth and learning.
  • Soles4Souls diverts shoes and clothing from landfills and turns potential waste into relief for those in crisis, opportunity for communities, confidence for kids, and a healthier planet for all.

Founded in 2007, the CCF’s mission is to enrich the lives of children in the communities we serve. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $6.5 million in grants to charitable organizations across the country that help children. The CCF’s main source of fundraising is through voluntary employee payroll deductions that are matched by CAPTRUST.
