Mike Vogelzang serves as CAPTRUST’s chief investment officer and chair of the firm’s Investment Committee. Mike is based in Boston, MA and Raleigh, NC.

Mike brings more than 30 years of portfolio management, market strategy, and investment research experience to the firm. He leads CAPTRUST’s Investment Group, which includes more than 50 professionals across manager and security research, portfolio management, alternative investments, and investment strategy, and provides investment oversight and direction to a broader team of professionals across the firm.

As chief investment officer, Mike leads the development of CAPTRUST’s investment “House Views” and oversees investment research, manager due diligence, portfolio construction, and investment risk management across the firm. His team researches and monitors more than hundreds of traditional and alternative investment managers and portfolios. His responsibilities span CAPTRUST’s institutional business, including more than $1 trillion in defined contribution assets and more than $100 billion in nonprofit and other non-taxable assets, as well as the firm’s wealth management business, with more than $110 billion in assets (as of 09.30.26).

In addition to his responsibilities as CIO, Mike is a practicing portfolio manager. He has managed institutional and private client assets for more than 25 years and has continuously managed the firm’s U.S. Equity Income strategy since 2003. The strategy currently has approximately $4 billion in assets under management (as of 09.30.26).

Mike also leads the development of new investment strategies for clients and financial advisors.  He is the principal voice for CAPTRUST on the investment landscape. He regularly communicates the firm’s investment views through market commentary, videos, conferences, media appearances, and presentations to clients and industry audiences across the country.

Prior to joining CAPTRUST, Mike spent more than 20 years as president and chief investment officer of Boston Advisors, LLC, a 50-person independent institutional and wealth management firm with approximately $4 billion in assets under management at its peak. Mike also served as trustee of the multibillion-dollar Boston Advisors Trust, a family of money market mutual funds, and previously served as president of the Lebenthal Funds, a family of taxable and tax-exempt long-term bond funds.

Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science from Calvin University. Mike serves as chair of the Investment Committee of Barnabas Foundation, a Chicago-based planned giving and charitable organization serving faith-based organizations and individuals. He also serves on the Investment Committee of Calvin University.
